PS3-EYE Driver and SDK from Code Laboratories

No Comments NUI, Tips & Hints, Windows

I was recently programming using the Ps3(Sony Playstation 3) Eye cam (they are cheap, nice fps, and so on…), and sometimes it is hard to gain access to the device and perform satisfactory sample image processing functions on the captured image.  A company called Code Laboratories provides the PS3 eye cam driver for using with common applications like NUI Group’s CCV , MSN, etc. And also a SDK for more advanced users to program their own applications, supporting even the use of multicam. The software package from the SDK comes even with some template projects for programming with Visual Studio(I did it myself on the Microsoft ViSual Studio 2010 – using Windows 7 64 bits- , and had no problems for running any of

them). For most of the users the necessary installers are provided by free, and also the use of it. But , if necessary there are some more advanced packages that may fit on your own application. Below, there is a more detailed explanation of each part of it taken from the company’s website.

The CL-Eye Platform Driver provides users a signed hardware driver which exposes supported cameras to third party applications such as Adobe Flash, Skype, MSN or Yahoo for video chat or conferencing. Two modes allow basic compatibility mode and a advanced mode for high frame rate development use.

Another great software pack is the CL3-eye sdk that provides full access and use of the ps3-eye cam device when programming your own applications, including support to multi-cam configurations.

techsparked.com is now sparkon.net

Message by the Sparkon team:

After much deliberation, we decided to re-brand techsparked.com as sparkon.net. We hope you’re as excited as we are about the name change. sparkon is not only shorter, but easier to remember and say, and less prone to errors (which is something we found with ‘techsparked’).

What’s this mean for you?

Not much really. All the techsparked.com links will still work and are redirected to sparkon.net. If you forget and go to techsparked.com, you’ll still end up at the right place.

If you’re using google analytics in your sparkon profile, you’ll need to update your account to point to sparkon.net rather than techsparked.com. If you’re using a promote image on your blog, we recommend that you update your link here: http://sparkon.net/promote.

Other than that, you’re good to go!

We have a new facebook page. Check it out here. If you were a fan of the old page, make sure to ‘like’ the new one since we’ll be removing the previous one in the coming weeks.

We tweet! Do you? Follow us on twitter @sparkon_net

Thanks and have a great weekend.
